Obama and Decriminalization

February 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Senator Barack Obama’s campaign backed away from statements made last week affirming the Senator’s support for decriminalizing marijuana, after being confronted with inconsistencies in his past and present campaigns on the issue by the Washington Times.

A spokesman for Obama’s campaign blamed confusion over the meaning of decriminalization for the inconsistencies, and said that while Obama does not support decriminalization, “we are sending far too many first-time, nonviolent drug users to prison for very long periods of time, and that we should rethink those laws.”

For a different kind of politician, he sure acts a lot like the regular kind.

So I watched the dems debate last night. It seems like 6 months ago, the thought of them running together was an absolute impossibility. The disagreed on everything. Now, it’s like 90-10% in favor of them agreeing on the issues. 90% of the debate was “Senator Obama and I agree on this” and “Senator Clinton and I agree on that”. The rest was bickering brought on by Hilary’s absolute need to run a dirty campaign and Obama trying to deflect it and actually talk about the issues. This is getting ridiculous. My guess is that in the next 2-3 weeks we’ll have one bow out, the other victorious, and an Obama-Clinton ticket announced the next day.

And, I hate Hilary so much that this possibility makes me even more likely to vote for Batman.
