A group of renowned nuclear physicists, economic experts, and energy policy professionals are saying that despite the problems our oil dependency causes, new nuclear plants are a bad idea.
I had been in favor of increasing nuclear power use, because my understanding was that new technologies (we haven’t built a new nuclear plant in the US since the 70s) made them much safer and less expensive, but if illustrious names in energy policy like Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Graham Nash are against new plants then I guess I should rethink things. Interestingly, all three seem to also be professional popular musicians, I guess as a sideline. They must be nuclear energy policy experts though, probably with multiple hard science degrees and years of economics and energy policy experience, because why else would CNN think that any of us would care what a group of unqualified, substance abusing, wifebeating musicians think about the topic?
